Keep our lake healthy
Our mission is to preserve, protect and improve the health of Mudge Pond and to encourage its recreational use and enjoyment by the community.

About Us
The Mudge Pond Association, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) based in Sharon, Connecticut.
We are a group of local residents who have come together to improve water quality, control invasive species and engage the community to insure Mudge Pond can be enjoyed for generations to come.
A recent lake study by the Town of Sharon indicated the need for better stewardship of the lake. Eradicating invasive species, promoting native species, and collaborating with residents who live in the watershed, to help us improve water quality, are the key suggestions of the report.
Mudge Pond is home the the Town Beach, a State boat launch and numerous fish, amphibians and native plants. A glacial lake, fed by springs and a system of streams, the lake is enjoyed year round by swimmers, paddlers, fisherman, ice skaters, and photographers.
We hope you will join us, either by donating your time or perhaps a financial contribution to help us meet our goals.

Our Goals
The Association has four areas of focus

Water Quality
Mudge Pond should remain in the oligo-mesotrophic range, a designation for lakes with clear water and relatively low biological activity.

Invasive Species
Five invasive plant species have been detected, with eurasian milfoil, fanwort and curly-leaf pondweed, water chestnut and brittle naiad alll present.

Recreation
Small boats need to be cleaned before entering the lake to keep invasice specaies out. Swimming, boating, fishing. etc

Oxygen
One cause for concern is an oxygen-depleted layer that formed on the bottom of the lake throughout summer, allowing nitrogen in the lake bed to leach into the water column.
